If you are fortunate enough to own such wonderful heirlooms please take care of them!! I recommend getting copies made of them and placing the originals in acid-free jackets and into an album. DO NOT leave them in the old black papered albums! The acidity in these albums is tremendous which causes the photos to fade and become brittle. DO NOT put them in the albums with sticky pages. Removing photos from these types of pages is often damaging. Keep them away from sunlight and moisture and try not to handle them too much. If you know who they are of,  please label them. Acid-free pans are great for this and just remember to write on the back near the edge. So many times when a family member dies unlabeled photos are thrown away. Even if you don't know exactly who it is, label where it was found and when. When I received a box of photos that was hidden in my MaMaw's attic, most weren't labeled. Luckily I had other photos of the same people that were marked. I think of all the wonderful heirlooms that would've been lost had they been tossed aside because they were unmarked. Take care of them and they will be there for the future generations to enjoy. They are a way of looking into our past and seeing proof of how we came to be.
This is part of the heritage wall in my home. There are about 60 right now, but I will soon be moving it to a larger wall. There are about 30 new photographs that I would like to add. Thank you to those of you who have so generously shared these treasures. I love to spend time looking at how I came to be. It is so interesting to see the resemblance through the generations. My children also enjoy seeing all of their grandparents, although great-great-great-great-grandma is a little hard to grasp for a 7 year old. If you have an empty wall in your home, this is a wonderful way to show off your hours of genealogy. If you would like some time saving tips on how to get started just e-mail me.  Last Christmas, my sister and I put together 2 photo walls for our Grandma Siltz. She has given us both a strong love for photography and we felt this would be a perfect gift for her. We wouldn't let her peek while we were getting it hung on the wall, but we know the wait was well worth it. It has given her so much enjoyment to be surrounded by her family.
