Sorry, but I don't understand what you mean by hitting the rail just before the second diamond. I think you're talking about the second diamond on the long rail (where the cue ball is sitting). I tried this shot several times and wasn't even close. Hitting the rail with the cue ball around the second diamond made the cue ball hit to the right of the pocket instead of to the left of it.
I probably didn't explain it right. Wouldn't be the first time. The cue ball is frozen at the first diamond, and the aim line is toward the second diamond. If you go long, then adjust the aim closer to the first diamond. If you go short, adjust the aim closer to the third diamond. I'm sure this shot is impossible on some tables.
