That looks like a big Banana Spider. is it?

A friend of mine on journalspace said it was a garden spider. I'll take her word for it, but all I know for sure is that I'm glad it didn't lunge for my throat.

One lived in my yard all last summer and that thing was fearless. It didn't even freak when I tried to scare it with the lawnmower.

On another note.. no Alli day entry? ::sigh:: And you're not even visiting for the rest of the week :-(

Just because I don't specifically write about AlliDay, that doesn't mean that it isn't important to me. AlliDay is the highlight of my week, most weeks.

The spider is generally referred to as a writing spider. This is due to the large zig-zaggy line it makes down the center of its web, which looks a bit like writing. There are many old wives tales children still carry along that if the spider writes your name in it you'll die, or if it writes another's name in it it's the name of the person you'll marry, and other such blather. It is often considered to be part of the inspiration behind the popular classic children's book, Charlotte's Web.

Plus, it was icky.

If you haven't left a comment here before, you may need to be approved before your comment will appear. Until then, it won't appear on the entry. Thanks for waiting.

I'll pretty much approve anything except SPAM comments, or comments that clearly have no purpose except to piss me off, or comments that are insulting to a previous commenter.

Use anything you want for your name and email address. I think it has to at least look like a valid email address though.
